My latest thoughts about ...
From Double-O-Nine to Single-O-Ten

The blog is back. A new year, a new decade, a new mindset. Who could have predicted the dramatic changes in global economy which have taken place over the past year. Hopefully we are by now well on our way to recovery. Here at AXEL, October 2008 was an all time high. We had never ever made or sold so much grease. And then the bottom fell out. The last year of the "double-O" decade was defensive and we spend more than 100% of our time trying to stabilize our platform. This has involved a lot of hard work and a lot of difficult, sometimes painful decisions. The drastic fall in sales has required a corresponding reduction in manufacturing capacity and by inference in staff. We are now slowly but surely dragging ourselves back to "normality" and all things considered, 2009 turned out to be not as bad as we had expected. It did take as lot of effort though. And we have had to adopt a completely different mindset. The butterfly effect. What happens over there can affect us over here. Quickly and like a sledgehammer. In double-o-nine, many activities which were not absolutely vital to our sustainability had to be simply put aside. This blog for instance. But I hope you have missed me. We are now looking forward to a new and exciting year of grease activities. We are looking forward to developing the business both by organic growth and geographic expansion. We are looking forward to coming to Kiev for the ELGI meeting in April. And Naples Florida in June. In the meantime, I hope to see you all sometime soon, whenever, wherever. I'm back.
