Background
Our Caliac thickener is made by a reaction process where both lithium hydroxide and either calcium hydroxide or calcium carbonate are allowed to react with fatty acids, usually 12-hydroxy-stearic acid. The ratio between the Li- and the Ca- components can be varied to achieve different properties from the thickener. The flexibility of the thickener system allows tailoring towards high load-carrying capacity and/or extreme water resistance. The Caliac thickener has properties in common with both the lithium thickener and the anhydrous calcium thickener. Typical treat rate for a NLGI 2 grease: 7 - 11 %

Performance and Applications 
The performance capabilities of Caliac technology make it an attractive platform for applications and market segments where high loads and challenging conditions are expected. Due to its inherent structural stability, high load-carrying capability, and resistance to the effects of water ingress, it is well suited to exposed, heavy-duty operations such as those found in the following:

  • - Wet-, dirty- and highly loaded conditions in off-road and construction
  • - Highly loaded applications in waterways, bridges, and sluices
  • - Heavy-duty industrial applications, e.g., cold rolling of stainless steel, reversible mills, Pilger mills, etc.
  • - Off-road construction vehicles for digging, quarrying, open-cast mining, dredging, cranes
  • - Open gears, racks, chains, wire ropes, etc. 
  • - At boundary conditions; U-joints, 5th wheels, bucket pins
