AXEL’s Group Technical Manager, Johan Leckner, presented a technical paper at the NLGI Annual Meeting in Toronto that highlights the importance of making sustainability studies on a system level - including both the lubricant and the component being lubricated. Failing to do so will result in an incorrect understanding of the sustainability impacts.
The paper includes the development of a grease for slow-moving and heavily loaded bevel gears that reduces gear losses by one third and that extends the gear life at least twofold. The new grease is then compared with the previously used grease in a cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment which suggests that the newly developed grease has higher sustainability impacts than the former grease.
To contrast this, we also present a cradle-to-gate LCA for the gear/grease system where impacts are 50% lower over all impact factors for the newly developed grease, highlighting the importance of including the usage phase in any sustainability study.

After attending our General Management Team (GMT) meeting, Greg was warmly received at our 3 European facilities in Nol, Sweden, Heijningen, Netherlands, and Niort, France. Greg’s packed agenda included meetings with management and key personnel, plant tours, and soaking up best practices from the whole AXEL team. Go One AXEL! On May 23rd, Greg took up the role of new President for AXEL Americas and AXEL Royal.
Mikael Kruse represented AXEL at the ALIA annual meeting in Bangkok Thailand. The event was held at the beautiful Anatara Siam hotel and attracted companies and organisations active in the lubrication industry in Asia.
More than 300 people attended the 32nd ELGI AGM "The Music of Greases It's in the Composition" in Hamburg between the end of April and early May. After three years this time the event was held "three-dimensionally".
We are pleased to announce that Greg Schwartz is joining the AXEL team as the new President for AXEL Americas and AXEL Royal. Greg started with AXEL on May 9 and has spent a period visiting AXEL in Europe, before formally taking charge as President today.
